Midstates Consortium Symposium for Physical Sciences, Mathematics/Statistics and Computer Science

The Midstates Consortium is hosting its student symposium for Physical Sciences, Mathematics/Statistics, and Computer Science on November 12-13 (student presentations occurring the 13th).  The conference is virtual this year.  Here is the link (you can get more information here as well as the link for students to apply).

Chemistry Seminar Schedule

2021-22 Chemistry Seminar Schedule

As a declared Chemistry major, you must complete 12 seminars prior to your graduation.  These seminars show you the breadth of the chemical related enterprise, highlight research and inquiry occurring at universities, private and public companies, government laboratories, research stations and more, and provide opportunities for your peers to communicate their work to you.

The deadline for Spring 2022 submission of webinar attendance forms will be May 18.  There will be seminar cards at each seminar for you to complete. Please turn these in at the end of the seminar; to aid in record keeping we suggest taking photos of your seminar cards before turning them in, in case of conflicting data.

Errors and questions?  Visit the Chem Dept Office at RNS 336 or email Stacey at argabr1@stolaf.edu.

Most Seminars will be held in RNS 410 from 3:15 – 4:15 pm unless otherwise noted on the below table.

University of North Dakota Virtual Open House

virtual open house at UND, Chemistry Saturday, April 24 2021, 1-4 pm

We are inviting undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing chemistry graduate studies to attend a virtual open house event on Saturday, April 24th 2021, 1-4 pm held by the Department of Chemistry at UND.

The event will include a welcome by our chair, an introduction of chemistry graduate programs and application process at UND, and a virtual meeting with faculty. Students will also have the opportunity to talk with individual faculty members in breakout sessions and interact with current graduate students. The leaflet with information about the program is attached.

To register, students should follow the link UND Chemistry 2021 Open House for a short (1 min) survey. The preferred response time is April 17, 2021, but students can join without preregistration. After the attendance of the program, we will send a UND Chemistry pen.

Please let us know if you have any questions about this event. We would be happy to answer any inquiries about graduate requirements or applications as well. Please feel free to contact the Chemistry Graduate Studies director, Dr. Guodong Du, at Guodong.Du@UND.edu or me at Alena.Kubatova@UND.edu.

Thank you very much and best wishes!

Guodong  & Alena

Attend UND Open house and get the pen!

Summer Research Opportunity

The Departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Coatings and Polymeric are running an exciting Green Chemistry Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program this summer at North Dakota State University! We welcome students interested in green chemistry from diverse educational settings at varying stages of their training. Each REU student will work with an individual Research Mentor for 10 weeks, maximizing the one-on-one mentoring experience.

Application

For more information or to apply, visit: https://www.ndsu.edu/scimath/green_chemistry_reu/

Application deadline: March 26, 2021.

Stipend: $5,000 plus on-campus housing and a meal plan

Town hall meeting

Students and faculty interested in our program are invited to attend a town hall meeting on Zoom.
